Commodore 64 Emulator Coming to the iPhone/iPod Touch

Australian iPhone user Stuart Carnie informs us that he is on the go with working on  a Commodore 64 emulator known as iFrodo for the iPhone.

We’ll keep you up to date, but feel free to read about his work in progress via his personal blog, here.

On May 11th, he noted that he has all the graphics done, and is currently researching how to get audio working.

He plans on making it possible to use via Portrait and Landscape modes, which is great.

The aussie states:

Show and Tell
Here is a short video showing ‘Hello World’ and running IK+ (International Karate +). As mentioned above, it uses the built in keyboard, in ‘line mode’, which is simply a debugging tool, until I build the UI. No sound either, but that is underway. I’ll follow up with another video once sound is activated.

Keep up the great work Stuart! Can’t wait to try out the finished project.

    ermmm, what can this acctually do? can games be played on it? what is the use and what makes this so good to come to the iPhone and iPod Touch?

    It’s a C64 emulator. It … does what a C64 does. Did you watch the video? He loads up IK+ on it. I assume you’re aware of the other emulators available on the iPhone and Touch… (GB, GBA, PSX, Genesis…)

    ahh i see…i dont have a clue what one of them are lol but i guess ill find out soon :D
    how does he even control that karate games and it looks very basic, will it even come close to zodttds work?

    Kind of apples and oranges. The Commodore 64 was a computer, not a game console, so it works a little differently. I don’t know how he’s going to work out a proper keyboard and joystick control; Stuart hasn’t done the UI yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.
