Over 1.5 Billion App Store Downloads in First Year

by Jody Mitoma on July 14, 2009 at 1:01 pm

Apple has earlier today announced that customers have downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications in just one year from the Apple App Store. Aside from such, there are more than 65,000 apps available on the App Store, and there are officially over 100,000 developers in the iPhone Developer Program working on releasing these thousands of applications.

The App Store is like nothing before, introducing something entirely new, and taking off like a charm. Like Steve Jobs himself said, “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”, and I couldn’t agree more.

Apple also announces, within the same press release, that they’ve shipped out over 40 million iPod touch and iPhone devices over the years, all of which run the Apple App Store.

These numbers will only grow larger as the days pass. It won’t be long before Apple has over 100,000 applications available within the App Store. Personally, seeing as the rate of submissions keeps raising, I give it until the end of the 2009 year.
