Apple Sells Over One Million iPhone 3GS Models within First 72 Hours

Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster was a little off with his estimation of 500,000 sales noted on June 18th. Apple yesterday announced that they’ve succeeded in the selling of over 1 million iPhone 3GS models June 19th through to June 21st, 2009.
If you read the bottom of the June 18th story, you will see where I estimated that Apple would in fact sell more than 500,000. I had estimated approximately 700,000 sales, which also puts me in the wrong. I was closer, though. You’ve got to give me that!
In addition to such an accomplishment, Apple also mentioned that their iPhone OS 3.0 software update had been downloaded over six million times within the first five days of release, which has been since the 17th of June.
“Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”
