iPhone 3G S is Sporting a Processor Capable of 833MHz; 720p Video Immanent

by Jody Mitoma on June 19, 2009 at 8:46 pm

As mentioned in the article prior to this, RapidRepair didn’t waste any time in disassembling their iPhone 3G S quickly after receiving their very own. What the found below the outer shell was totally unexpected, and frankly, quite a nice touch.

Hours after the dismantlement of RapidRepair’s iPhone 3G S, it was announced that the processor found within was actually capable of running at faster speeds then 600MHz. The chipset being used, is the SoC S5PC100 from Samsung. This being known, it is capable for the iPhone 3G S to actually run at 233MHz HIGHER than its current clock speed, zooming in at a possible 833MHz.

Not only this, but it is apparent that the iPhone 3G S is also capable of recording at a lovely 720p quality, and is able to handle real-time video conferencing, should Apple choose to go in that direction sometime in the near future. Currently, the iPhone 3G S only records at VGA quality, which, lets face it, isn’t all that pretty.

Have a look at a block diagram of the S5PC100 below:

The S, after all, stands for speed, does it not? It’s possible we’ll get even more speed out of this thing, then we had first thought. It’ll be interesting to see what Apple’s got in mind when it comes to the full clocking capabilities of the S5PC100 processor in the future.

My guess: Apple isn’t going to make the 3GS any faster in the future. They probably just started buying huge quantities of the processor they’ll use on the 3GS AND the 4G..they’ll leave the 3GS practically crippled to make the next iphone seem that much better when they enable the hardware’s full capacity.

    Hmm, you could be right.

How I’d be happy if Apple had agreed to go with my processor manufacturing company for such a successful line up of cell phones. (Not that I have one or anything.. I’m just saying) Millions upon millions of processors bought from Samsung. I’m sure they’re rather ecstatic about the whole ordeal.

I wonder if they’ll be using the same processor next time around… I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
