iPhone App Store 20% on its way to 100k Applications

As the title reads, it has been officially announced that the iPhone App Store has over 20,000 applications available for download. Some of which are free, and some of which will cost you much more than a pretty penny.
This announcement was made official on February 10th by Apptism, a site that tracks and rates App Store applications on a daily basis.
What’s most impressive, is the fact that the App Store had only reached 10,000 applications not but three months ago. At the current rate that applications are being submitted, and approved, to the App Store, the process has doubled in speed. What I mean by this, is that, it took six months for the first 10,000 applications to hit the App Store. It only took half that time, three months, to hit an additional 10,000 applications. If this trend continues, we should have approximately 30,000 applications on the App Store in less than two months time, come April of ‘09. Then, if the trend continues to over come itself, we will most likely have over 100,000 applications and games available on the iPhone App Store before the switch to a new decade; 2010…. In other words, only next year. Imagine that…. Apple will have to think of a new way to organize and search for applications on the App Store, if they are going to make it easy enough for us to look through over one hundred thousand applications.
But there you have it. Twenty thousand applications available on the App Store, in only nine months of being open to the public. Phenomenal. I just hope for more quality applications, rather than a crap load of, well, crap.
One last note. Not but four days after February 10th’s announcement, Apptism.com is already tracking an additional 1,000 applications since its announcement of hitting 20,000 only four days ago. At a rate of 1,000 applications every four days, we will have 30,000 applications in just over a month’s time.
