iPhone To Get Flash – For Real This Time

After all this time picking at the flower over Flash, it looks like the final petal on Adobe’s Flash saga will land on “loves me.” As it turns out, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen isn’t merely in talks with Apple about bringing Flash to the iPhone at long, long, long last, he’s actually teamed up with Apple to make it happen. Yep, they’re actually working together on this, Apple and Adobe, according to a Bloomberg interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Yeah, I know. Steve Jobs has maintained for along as we care to remember that the full-on Flash is just too much of a resource hog to be practical on the iPhone, and Flash Lite is too tepid to provide that robust web experience. Evidently, the only way around this obstacle was for the two to get together and see if they can’t work this out between them to get Flash working good and proper on Apple’s mobiles. Apple’s role is likely only to be consultory, but naturally retaining veto powers, but the important thing is that the two seem to be really trying to work this out once and for all as a team effort instead of Adobe throwing out entreaties every once in a while, only to have them spurned by The Steve.
I probably wouldn’t expect to see a complete Flash 10 implementation, but it wouldn’t be too unreasonable to suggest a reasonably complete implementation of Flash 9 — enough to make it possible to surf the web with all of its Flash glory. Naturally there’s no word on when we can expect to see anything emerge from this coupling, but knowing that it’s ahead full steam at last will have to be enough to satisfy the hoi polloi for the time being.

The day I can view “Badgers Badgers” on my iPod will be a truly great day.
