Mac turns 25

The revolutionary computer that started it all, Macintosh, turns 25 tomorrow. Apple debuted their first Mac back on January 24th, 1984 and aired a commercial during the Superbowl the same year. If you know anything about airing commercials during the Superbowl, you know that it’s very expensive. In fact, the average 30-second commercial that airs during the Superbowl costs between $1,000,000 to $3,000,000 dollars.
Considering the hefty price that Apple had to pay for this commercial, they weren’t going to waste their 1 minute to shine. Apple aired one of the most prominent commercials out of all Superbowl commercials to present day. It only aired once more on national television after the Superbowl. It featured a woman running, hammer in hand, towards a large room. After running away from security she throws the hammer at the screen of a large Mac. There was a face on the screen talking to an almost alien-like audience, and it’s last words were, “we will prevail”. Right before the commercial ended it said “on January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like ‘1984′.”
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 25 years since the first Mac was introduced. Apple has come a long way since then, bringing us trademark products like the iPod and iPhone – used by tens of millions of people around the world. Steve Jobs deserves much of this credit for he’s the person that got Apple kick-started, and after leaving the company for a while came back to get the company back on it’s feet. Happy birthday Mac!
