Mr. Jobs Leaves Apple Inc…. Well, at Least Until the Summer
by Jody Mitoma on January 14, 2009 at 10:53 pm
The Steve has taken a leave of absence from the company he himself founded many, many years ago. This was first announced by an e-mail sent to all of Steve’s own Apple employees, which was sent earlier today.
Now, don’t get this whole thing wrong. Steve isn’t leaving the company permanently. It’s not like that at all. He is simply taking a vacation, if you will, and will be returning later in the year, come summer time. This break is well desirved by Mr. Jobs, and if anything, should of been taken earlier in the month. As we all know by now, Steve is suffering from some health-related issues, and as such, is having difficulties.
The letter read:
Team,
I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very
personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my
personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my
family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the
past week I have learned that my
health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought. In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health,
and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary
products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the
end of June.I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day
operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team
will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major
strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully
supports this plan.I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.
Steve
I’m sure Apple will be just the same without him, and that Tim Cook will do a fantastic job “running” the place. Good luck to you both (Steve and Tim)!
