iPhone Isn’t Enough To Help Rogers…

by Adam Cecchetto on January 8, 2009 at 9:55 am

Based on an article published on Tuesday in the Financial Post, it seems as though Rogers saw an unexpected decline in iPhone activations during the holiday season, which some say could be indicative of a challenging 2009 for Canada’s wireless carriers.

Rogers reported a 48% decrease in iPhone sales in Q4 of 2008, a sharp decrease from 255,000 units sold in Q3. Rogers also reported that is added 604,000 new customers in 2008, down 47% from 2007.

The article goes on to say that the declines are being attributed to decreased consumer spending and a shift towards discount carriers such as Fido, Solo and Koodo.

You can read the full article here.

I wonder if the decrease in activations are due to people having the same experience as my wife trying to purchase my iPhone as a gift (a whole other story/rant). Did anyone think about getting an iPhone during the holiday season but get turned off by the cost, service, etc.?
