I am a tard

by Eric March on January 7, 2009 at 2:06 pm

Yes I am.

You see, I was doing some work in the directories of our sites, attempting to copy two directories from one place to another.  Such a simple operation, really; select two directories, copy from here to there, done.  Except it didn’t quite work that way.  The source directories got deleted.

Now, in my defense, something as simple as a copy operation shouldn’t trigger fears of deleting the directories you’re copying from, right?  Of course not.  And yet that’s exactly what happened.  So I ran all panicky to our provider, and fortunately they had a backup of everything.  From Monday.  Well, that’s not so bad.  But they have to do a full restore; they can’t just selectively restore two deleted directories.

Fortunately, and to my surprise, no data was lost (I feared it would be because I was told the backup was from Monday, but that’s apparently not the case), so the net result was about an hour and a half of downtime, so that’s good.  Relatively speaking, anyway.

But I’m still a tard.
