TechCrunch has it that Apple Inc. may be working on a tablet-sized iPod Touch device, that’ll be very much similar to the iPod Touch, but with a 7 or 9 inch screen. How sweet would that be?!
I don’t know about you, but if I saw an iPod Touch with a 9 inch screen, I’d probably be all over it. Okay, so it wouldn’t be as portable, but who gives? Its screen would be 9 inches! Do you have any idea how amazing it would be to play two player games like Tap Tap Revolution on a tablet-sized iPod Touch? Woah.
The current iPod Touch models, first gen and second gen, are equipped with 3.5 inch screens, and are priced around the $229 - $399 mark. With that in mind, it’s pretty obvious that a larger sized iPod Touch would have a price tag much higher than the current gen iPod Touches. I’m not one to speculate on prices, but I’d expect something around the $699 mark for a 16GB model, if such models were to even exist. But who knows, right?
We could only hope that this rumor be true. If Apple Inc. does in fact make this dream a reality, they will of made a good choice on their own part.

I read this post a few days ago, and it has taken me this long to decide what I think.
There is a lot I like about my iPod Touch, and a lot I think that makes me wonder WHY I ever spent a single dollar supporting Apple’s closed strategy?! ( No stereo out Bluetooth, no way to transfer FREE apps to friends through WiFi? No way to transfer free podcasts with friends through WiFi? Not to mention the high-tech 1980’s feature of cut-n-paste. )
All that being said, I realize now that I wouldn’t pay for a larger screened iPod Touch with the restrictive Apple App store. For that price I’d consider a full OSX “laptop without a keyboard” that I could have way more control over, but not an expanded iPod Touch.

As far as I’m concerned I sincerely doubt this is real. If Apple was going to spend the money to make a larger version of the iPod Touch, they’d just go ahead and make a real Tablet PC or tablet-form netbook. It would make a hell of a lot more sense.
The Steve has said repeatedly that he’s not interested in the netbook form factor though until it becomes a mainstream thing — but then The Steve also said the iPhone wasn’t a smartphone and would not be open to third party development…
