Promotional Codes Can Now be Used within the App Store

by Jody Mitoma on December 4, 2008 at 2:06 pm

According to MacRumors, it is now possible to use and distribute “Promo Codes” for any of your self-uploaded apps onto the App Store.

Two setbacks, however, until further notice, are:

  • Developers are only able to give away 50 promotional codes per application version.
  • The promo codes are only available to US iTunes Store users.

Previous to such promo codes, developers would need the UDID information of any and all iPhone and iPod Touch owners they would like to share their application with via Ad-hoc. With the new promo codes, this process will be depleted, whilst making the process of sharing your application with fellow friends, developers, and bloggers that much easier, and of course, quicker.

If I do say so myself, it’s about damn time Apple allows for something like such to occur. This was needed since day one. Anyway, fact is, it’s here now, and thankfully so. Now, let’s make use of it!

Has anyone figured out a work-around for getting promo copies to NON-US itunes customers?

We’re based in Toronto and we’re finding it a pain in the ass to get free copies to anyone.

    Any help appreciated.
