AT&T Confirms iPhone Tethering is on its Way

by Jody Mitoma on November 7, 2008 at 4:14 pm

Well there you have it. Tethering for the iPhone is finally making its debut, sometime in the near future, according to the AT&T executive.

Harry McCracken of Technologizer reports that AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega told Michael Arrington that the iPhone will be allowed to work as a tethered wireless modem for notebooks. It will be available “soon.” Allegedly.

It’s about darn time, too. I’m sure many of you remember the application that was once added to the App Store, but was then quickly removed within 24 hours of being available for purchase, right? Looks like tethering to notebooks will once again be available.

Not much information is known at this time, for example, will rate plans increase? Will there be bandwidth caps? No one knows yet, but once we find out, we’ll be sure to let you know.
