Firmware 2.2b2 Seeded to Developers; No, Still No Copy & Paste

As far as we know, Copy & Paste, like landscape note taking/messaging, proper MMS, and turn-by-turn directions are still on the iPhone’s bucket list, but like bucket lists, it seems to be the sort of thing that it will get around to someday. Before it dies. It’s almost as if Apple’s vaunted road map includes a large list of things that the developers attack from top to bottom, but skip over the things they just can’t be buggered to do right now.
Someday we will have these things. But not now. But that’s not to say there’s nothing worth mentioning in the next firmware. At this very moment, they are hard at work implimenting Google Street View and walking directions into the maps app — and I’m just guessing here, but this is probably in response to Android already having it, so Apple needs to stay feature-competitive. This was probably on the same bucket list, too, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it got bumped up once the G1 was announced.
On a different note, there also seems to be some new support for line-in audio devices, which suggests the possibility of being able to use external microphones or record from some other external audio source — to say nothing of the potential for more accurate and functional audio analysis software. (Spectrum analyzer, FFT, etc.)
iPhoneYap has a nice gallery of the Google Maps additions for those looking forward to this feature and want lots of screenies.
