Google Brings Localized Ads to the iPhone

Despite Google’s recent introduction of the Android mobile operating system, they’re still working with Apple to bring new things to the iPhone.
My guess as to why they are still working with Apple’s iPhone would have to be its popularity worldwide. Apple’s iPhone is, and always will sellout T-Mobile’s G1, so until Android is introduced on a new and innovative cellular device, I’m sure Google will continue to support Apple’s iPhone in the software department.
Google’s latest update in relation to the iPhone is the addition of localized ads.
“In meetings with agencies, Google has presented a new option to show different ads in response to searches made from iPhones. The change, expected to be implemented shortly, means advertisers will be able to create an iPhone ad group as part of their regular search campaign, according to agency executives briefed about the modification.”
The option will enable Google to sell advertisers iPhone targeted ads, making a big step into mobile ad relevance going forward and creating some more competition for smaller ad companies that specialize in mobile.

The reason Google is still working with Apple is because Google proper and Google’s Android division are separate things doing their own thing. Plus, Google CEO Eric Schmidt sits on Apple’s board of directors.

I think it will mostly be used in appstore applications anyway.
