Adobe Says Flash for the iPhone is Finally a Go, However Apple Decides when It’ll be Available

by Jody Mitoma on October 1, 2008 at 1:00 am

I’ll be damned! The good news is that Adobe’s Sr. Director of Engineering; Paul Betlem, states that Flash is coming to the iPhone. The bad news; Betlem specifically said that “Apple calls the shots as to when it’ll be available.” It could be months down the line before we see Flash on the iPhone and iPod touch. At least, that is what he said when Jens Chr Brynildsen, a Flash expert who maintains a number of resources, including Flash Magazine.

Brynildsen got this information confirmed at an Adobe Town Hall meeting session.

“Upon a direct question from the audience, Paul Betlem for the first
time publicly confirmed that Adobe is actively developing a Flash
Player for Apple’s popular phone. He said (not direct quote) ‘My team
is working on Flash on the iPhone, but it’s a closed platform.’ He
noted that Apple makes all the decisions, so in other words, the ball
is in Apple’s yard at this time. If Apple says yes, Adobe will have the
player available in a very short time.”

What’s neat is that Adobe already has Flash running on an iPhone simulator (probably the same simulator that comes with Apple’s iPhone SDK). All we are waiting on now is Apple’s Okay.

Apple have always said no though. Why would they say yes after all this time?

If they do Adobe should stick it to them and release it as a jailbreak app:)

This whole saga with Adobe over Flash is crazy on Apple’s part. Are they not in the business of selling their products? Apple’s Board of Directors needs to tell Steve Jobs to wakeup. Give consumers what they want by allowing Flash and they will sell four times as many units which will make the shareholders happy!
