Apple Launches iPhone Developer University Program

by Jody Mitoma on September 22, 2008 at 8:04 pm

It has just made the rounds of the internet this afternoon that Apple has started an iPhone Developer University Program, teaching those whom are interested in learning more about the iPhone and how to create applications for the device. In fact, Apple started this program last week sometime, but I only first heard about it this evening.

Do any of you remember Apple’s NDA? You know, the non-disclosure act that prevents developers of iPhone applications to speak any programming words that have to do with Apple’s iPhone? Who am I kidding, of course you remember! Well, as of this day, that NDA is still in effect, so that gets us wondering how these university programs will take effect without interfering with the act itself.

It’s possible that Apple may be reconsidering this act, and may be soon removing it entirely. But then again, it is also a possibility that Apple may simply be making a new act which will take effect in the university classrooms. It isn’t known as of yet, but we all hope that Apple reconsiders that damn NDA and removes in completely. Now wouldn’t that make all of our lives better in one way or another?

The program, available to accredited institutions in the U.S., allows teachers to create iPhone developer teams of up to 200 students who can develop, test, debug, and distribute applications amongst themselves or even via the App Store. They’ll be able to take advantage of all the tools that iPhone developers have access to, including the iPhone SDK and iPhone Dev Center resources.

As most of you already know, Apple’s developer program costs $99, but let it be known that the university program is free, and still comes with the same benefits as the developer program itself.

I surely wish I could part take in one of these university programs, however unfortunately I just don’t have the time to do so right now. Besides, I have 7 jobs on the go as we speak - and yes - one of those jobs include Touch Podium. :)

Have a look at the official University Program page here.
