QuickPwn 2.1 GUI for Windows Released

by Eric March on September 20, 2008 at 12:58 am

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this.  Poorlad and the Dev Team have finally released the Windows version of QuickPwn for firmware 2.1.  Naturally it’s just as simple to use as it always has been and the GUI hasn’t really undergone any significant changes — but of course, now us Microsofties can join the Mac heads in jailbreaking our lovely Firmware 2.1 devices — and just in time for the impending release of the next version of Snapture that supports the new firmware, too.

This latest version is entirely GUI-fied so there’s no more kludgy command line interface.  Furthermore it works differently than the previous version; while the steps you must take in the interactive phase are the same, internally it’s quite different.  The entire jailbreak is uploaded to the device as a RAMdisk, and then the jailbreak process takes place on the device itself.  There are some pretty graphics and stuff while it does its thing, too.

You can grab it from here, or from these mirrors here and here.  If you’re looking for a tutorial on how to handle QuickPwn, my QuickPwn guide is still quite relevant for this latest version. Just replace all mention of “Firmware 2.0.2″ with “Firmware 2.1″ and ignore the command line references and explanations (it’s all displayed in the GUI now) and you’ll be fine.  I just Pwned while I wrote this and the whole process once again took less than 2 minutes, so … awesome.  It did get stuck once at the Apple logo, which was a bit worrisome, but if you find it’s stuck there, vibrating twice (on the iPhone), run QuickPwn again and have it detect your device. With any luck that should kick it out of its rut.  Great work once again by the team — it’s nice to be back out of jail.

I have never been able to get ANY of the pwning software to work with any firmware across multiple computers.

So I’m stuck relying on some kind soul uploading a torrent of a pre-jailbroken firmware.

Love it, love it, love it. It’s so great to have my Touch back with Winterboard themes, Intelliscreen and the like. 2.1 continues to be extremely stable even with the new jailbreak. Congrats again to the Dev Team. Installation was simple and flawless.

@Uncle - That’s strange. What happens when it fails to work? How (specifically) does it crap out?

For some reason I can’t get QuickPwn2.1 for windows to even load on my computer, let alone give it a go on my iphone 3G! Anyone else having this same problem?

Everything seemed to work fine, but I ran QuickPwn 2.1-1 for iPhone v2.1 on the iPhone 2G v2.1 without a SIM, then when I put the T-Mobile SIM in, I get the message “Different SIM detected please connect to iTunes”. iTunes 8.0 says it is an unsupported SIM.

I’ve since tried again with the SIM in the phone during the process with same results. The phone can send and receive calls just fine and if I pull the SIM the apps all appear and work ok.

Is it because I originally synched with iTunes with no SIM? How can I fix (unlock, jailbreak) this problem?

@Eddie: What happens when you try and run it?

@Joe: PwnageTool and QuickPwn don’t unlock yet. They’re strictly for jailbreaking only. The Dev Team are still researching ways to unlock the 3G. For now, you’re stuck with AT&T.

so erick does that go the same for 2g owners as well, because i’m havin’ the same sim problems too

The first-gen iPhone is supposedly still unlockable with PwnageTool, but not QuickPwn. QuickPwn is not for unlocking (yet), only jailbreaking. If you want to unlock your first-gen iPhone, you will need to roll your own firmware with PwnageTool. Unfortunately, the DevTeam have not yet updated PwnageTool to work with Firmware 2.1 yet, so you can only unlock if you are running Firmware 2.0 or 2.0.1.

I’m not a programmer and Quickpwn 2.1 was eay to use and worked fine. There are plenty of instructions on the web regarding how to use the software - just look at YouTube if you want to see the process in action.

I have had a little bit of trouble configuring the email since 2.1 was released. I’m not sure whether that bug is Qucikpwn or Apple induced, but at least the phone is not a brick anymore. Quckpwn have given me full functionality back except for email.

    Thanks Guys!
