Interview with Skype CEO Informs where Skype for the iPhone is
by Jody Mitoma on September 18, 2008 at 1:12 am
GigaOM had scheduled an interview with the CEO of Skype; Josh Silverman. TWhen GigaOM asked Josh when we could expect Skype on the iPhone, the answer given was “Stay tuned.” Nothing more, nothing less. Just a simple “Stay tuned.”
Stay tuned? Come on, dude. Ya could’a given a little more than that. How about next week? Next month? Next year?…
Josh went on to say that Skype is very serious about the mobile phone opportunity. Skype is already available for Pocket PC WinMo cellphones, but has yet to be released for the iPhone, or even RIM’s Blackberry lineup of devices. Josh says that they’ve received over 7 million downloads of their Skype for Pocket PC software, so I could imagine they are quite excited to start selling the application for both the Blackberry and the iPhone in the near future.
The interview video can be found right after the break.
GigaOM has integrated a poll into their post in regards to their interview with Skype CEO Josh Silverman which asks “Do You Want Skype on Your iPhone?” The poll results as of this post read: “Oh god yes, I can’t wait” 86% | “Not Really” 5% | “In this era of flat rate plans from mobile companies, does anyone need Skype?” 9%. This is out of 797 votes, too.
Within the video GigaOM informs how Skype has just reached its 5th year of development, and how Josh Silverman has been the CEO of the company for six months now, and Josh informs how Skype is responsible for 6% of the world international calling mass, and much more.
Anyway, the interview will speak for itself, so without further ado, here is the interview between GigaOM and Skype CEO Josh Silverman.
