Apple’s Purchase of PA Semi for Future iPhone Development After All

Back in April of this year Apple had announced the purchase of a processor chip developing company; PA Semi. Way back when, it had been speculated that Apple would most likely be using this company to provide future iPhone development better performing processing power.
However, weeks after such rumors surfaced the internet, it had been said that Apple would not be using PA Semi to develop chips for future iPhone development.
iPhone Atlas states that less than a week ago today, Weihan Lien, the senior manager of Apple’s chip team, has confirmed chip development through PA Semi. He states, “busy at work crafting an ARM processor for the next-generation iPhone.”
As read via a New York Times post:
“By developing its own ARM variant, Apple could create a processor that meets the specific needs of the iPhone and iPod, building support for functions such as the touch screen or scroll wheel into silicon and possibly savings on costs by reducing the number of processors needed in each device. In addition, Apple’ will be able to maintain tighter controls on who knows what about its future products by disposing of an outside chip supplier.”
So there you have it. PA Semi’s processor line is in fact being used for the development of future iPhone processors.

Lots of potential benefits here. They could design an entire system-on-a-chip with this, which would reduce the real estate the components need and make room for new features — like the new, better camera they were looking for someone to design. Oh, and a nice WVGA screen plzthx?
