Official QuickPwn and PwnageTool for Firmware 2.1 Released

by Eric March on September 13, 2008 at 12:50 pm

From unofficial iPod Touch 2.1 QuickPwn to an official full-suite QuickPwn/Pwnage Tool for firmware 2.1 of all stripes in one day — not bad.  The iPhone Dev Team are right on the ball, as both Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn for the latest firmware hve been released.  For Mac, anyway — unfortunately, the Windows version is not yet avaiable.

Torrents are available for PwnageTool 2.1 for Mac here, and for QuickPwn 1.1 for Mac here.  You will need iTunes 8 — and don’t worry.  The little problem with iTunes 8 detecting Pwned firmwares for non-Pwned devices has been taken care of.

As an amusing aside, the team have offered a rebuttal to Engadget’s accusation that jailbreaking is becoming increasingly irrelevant as stated in the previous sentence’s link, to which Engadget has responded with a poll of their own.  Hey, what a great idea!  Why didn’t I think of– oh.  Right.

Engadget are idiots and always have been. If anything is increasingly irrelevant, it’s them.

Until people stop putting apps in the Appstore that are ludicrously overpriced when Jailbreak apps that do the same are free, of course Jailbreaking will be relevant. And even then Apple’s SDK is so restrictive on what you can and can’t do on the iPhone/iPod Touch that Apple themselves are practically encouraging Jailbreaking IMO.

As I said yesterday on here, all the time Apple won’t let me have an interface like PocketTouch on my iPod legitimately, I’ll be jailbreaking. And the fact is Jailbreaking and having SSH on the device has saved my ass from having to restore the whole damn thing on multiple occasions.
