4G iPod Nano Officially Announced at Let’s Rock Event, As Expected. Rumors All True

So there you have it. As expected, Steve Jobs announced the 4th generation iPod Nano at today’s Let’s Rock event. (see above!)
He went and pulled one right out of his pocket on stage, and displayed it for the crowed to weap on.
The images shown on the display above Steve showed how the 4th generation of iPod Nano compares with the previous generations.
Below is a comparison shots of all four generations, including the newest – just announced this afternoon:

Steve states, “Features? New curved aluminum design with curved glass — and enhanced UI with new features. We’ve taken the accelermoter from the touch and iPhone and it does some great things, and you can use the Genius function on the iPod.”

Songs are displayed in a touch / iPhone manner. “Turn it sideways and you’re in coverflow — you get full size album art — again with photos, just turn the nano. Video is fantastic, and another cool thing is you push and hold the center button for a popup menu, you can use the Genius, you can browse.”
Much better, Steve! Much, much better. This one’s a keeper, that’s for sure.
Oh, but we’re not done!
“New feature… shake to shuffle!” Simply shake the iPod Nano, and it’ll shuffle to another random song found in the iPod library.
24 hours battery life for music, 4 hours for video.
What’s more is Steve announces that the 4th generation iPod Nano is the “cleanest” iPod they’ve designed as of yet – environmentally-speaking. Steve states, ”We want to be environmentally sensitive. We’re constantly worrying about it. But the biggest thing is toxics — we have an internal checklist, but the new iPods look great from this point of view. They’re highly recyclable… we’re really trying our best. We think these new nanos are the cleanest we’ve ever built.”
As if that weren’t enough, Steve went on to share the many colors of the rainbow, using a ton of 4G iPod Nano’s on-screen behind him. Have a look at a screencapture below:

If you haven’t already noticed, that says “16 GB” for “$199″, meaning the rumors of the capacity of the iPod Nano lineup doubling, were true. Apple is offering 8GB models, as well as 16GB models, which should be ready as early as this weekend.
Steve goes on to share more great news. ”We’ve also got some great accessories… armband, some headphones as well… we have a pair we’re introducing… these headphones have a pause / play and volume control, double click goes to next song, triple click goes to previous, right from the cable, and there’s a microphone for voice recording”, he says.
And there you have it.
