A Second-Generation iPod Touch Coming Soon?

According to Apple Insider, an upgrade to the iPod Touch line is in order. Resellers around the world are reporting that Apple’s current line of iPods are depleting.
It is being said by people familiar with the inventory management systems at retailer Target, that all iPod models have recently seen their status shift from “Active” to “Discontinued” when scanned with a handheld PDA scanner.
It isn’t known when the new iPod’s are to be shipped in or available for purchase, but it is being rumored that September (next month) is most likely.
Argos, a big-box retailer in the UK, is also preparing to clear out its remaining iPod inventory in anticipation of new models in the coming weeks.
On Tuesday, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster issued his own note to clients where he voiced a similar view to that of Reitzes, adding that he expects iPod refreshes across the board with a sub-$200 iPod touch to boot.
“Specifically, we believe Apple will increase the capacity of the iPod shuffles as well as the iPod nanos (but maintain current price points); redesigned form factors for the shuffles and nanos are unlikely,” the analyst wrote. “We believe the iPod touch may be redesigned and may enter the $199 price point, in line with the iPhone.”
We’ll keep you informed on this front!

Sub $200 iPod Touch? Wonder what the specs would be on that? Kinda hope they don’t come up with a new Touch. I bought mine less than a year ago and if we get a “twice as big, half the cost” thing, given the Touch is the only big ticket electrical gizmo I’ve ever bought, I will be ever so slightly miffed.
