Line Rider Developers Reply Back in Regards to App Pricing

by Jody Mitoma on August 19, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Alright, so the good news is I received a response from inXile this morning.

The bad news, however, is that the response was as useless as squared off tires.

Here is the response I was given:

Dear Ms. Mitoma,

Thanks for your inquiry regarding Line Rider for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
We will be releasing a formal statement in the very near future that
will address your questions. I apologise that I am not able to answer
your questions directly at this time.

Unfortunately, inXile was unable to give off any information in regards to Line Rider for the iPhone’s pricing.

Everything about this e-mail, including the fact that David called me a woman and spelled “apologize” incorrectly, is useless to us all.

Update (5:03PM EDT):

InXile’s David Heeley has been kind enough to reply back to all of my concerns this evening, be it useful or not.

One of the given reasons the company cannot reveal any price tag at this point in regards to Line Rider for the App Store is simply because they haven’t fully contemplated and agreed upon one yet. Check out a snippet of an e-mail received by InXile below:

To be honest, we simply haven’t finalized the appropriate price point, and I wouldn’t want to set the wrong expectations with the fan base.

Even further, when I asked when David figured Line Rider for the App Store would go gold and start selling, he responded with the following:

I wish I could commit to a date, but all I can say is that we’re putting the finishing touches on it now so it won’t be a long wait.

So it won’t be a long wait. Only problem with that quote is, a long wait could mean 10 minutes waiting for your older sister to get out of the washroom in the morning when you have to take a mad piss, and it could also mean waiting 10 months, the month of your set marriage date couldn’t come any sooner.

However, rest assured that as soon as pricing information is revealed – be it free, or not – we will be one of the first to inform.

Sorry to dissapoint, folks.

Although I didn’t like their tone for saying “they aren’t sure what to price it” because that means, it will cost a price. Hopefully it isn’t too hefty. If it is a dollar or two, I might buy it, but anything over $5 I think will turn me off of the game on my iPod, and I’ll just stick to the computer version.

‘apologise’ is correct if you’re Canadian! Just sticking up for the Canucks out there!

Yeah, I wouldn’t count on a freebie here. It really depends on whether they’re porting Line Rider Classic or Unbound, too. For classic, anything over $3-5, as Dustin said, will put it out of range of most people’s comfort zone. Unbound — well, who knows, but I wouldn’t be surprised at a $10 tag for that.

Hey, I just checked your profile. Aren’t you Canadian yourself? I thought you northerners spelled everything with an ’s’ instead of a ‘z’. I’m confused….

And about the whole discussion about whether the Line Rider game should be free or not……is anyone really surprised that there will be a fee associated with the official version of Line Rider if and when it comes out for the iPhone? Last time I checked, most businesses are in the business of making money….

I played the free ‘Flying Rider’, and can honestly say 2 things….1) it was free becasue it was pretty crude, basically an unfinished product. And 2) anyone who doesn’t think it’s a rip-off of Line Rider is deluding themselves. The author of that app most likely wanted to make money off of it at some point, just hadn’t put in the time or effort to make it worth paying for yet.

Ultimately, I do want to see Line Rider come out for the iPhone. How much will I be willing to pay for it? Well, that depends on how polished and fully featured it is. Most adults realise that very little of any worth is truly free in this world….

    Let the flaming begin!

I’m not surprised to see it go pay — maybe a tad disappointed, but it’s certainly not unexpected. I just hope that it’s priced reasonably for the product they bring.

I know for a fact that Line Rider will have a price tag, but how much it’ll cost is what I’m worried about. I’m willing to pay, but nothing more than $5.99. If Line Rider is in fact more than $5.99, I find it ridiculous that they’ve made the developer of Flying Rider remove the game simply for extreme profit. If they agree upon selling the game for $5.99, it is almost guaranteed that they will make approximately a million dollars off of this game – from the iPhone alone.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

Also, James, yes, Touch Podium and it’s owners are Canadian, but I use Firefox and Firefox told me apologise was wrong… It also looked wrong too me just looking at it. In fact, you know what? I don’t fully agree with Canadian English, as you can see, hehe!

My appologies for ranting about the miss-spelling that actually wasn’t!

David, I would like to thank you for responding to the e-mails so quickly, however, and with honesty. Sorry for the rant on ‘apologise’. ;)
