Push Notificaition Yanked from Latest iPhone Beta

I was hoping Apple would finally make good on their Push Notification Service with the September release of Firmware 2.1, but it appears that Apple have rather different plans.
The latest firmware beta (2.1b4) has been seeded to developers, and it’s a little bit lighter than previous betas as Apple have excised Push Notification Service from it for “further development.” Given how the whole 2.0 launch has always felt a bit undercooked, considering the various debacles around application crashes, spontaneous reboots, iTunes app update issues, MobileMe, and the rest, it does make a certain amount of sense that Apple would now want to put back into the oven things which just aren’t popping the meat thermometer. Any more significant issues with their firmware and Apple’s otherwise good name will begin to tarnish in an unfortunate manner — and still being the new kid on the block until Android turns up, Apple can’t afford to lose their industry darling status.
There’s no word on when PNS will be reinstated; there’s still time left for it to make it back into 2.1 before it goes gold, but not much; the possibility exists that we may have to wait for the next firmware version before it sees the light of day. Let’s cross our fingers and hope not.
