Need for Speed’s Cover Blown, Reveals iPhone/Touch Release

I don’t know how this slipped by me — it’s almost a month old, but it’s not getting past this article.
A couple of weeks back a mysterious trailer appeared on the scene, which pimped a website that featured two people arguing in a room filmed by a security camera with few details available. (Video below) It is now known that the trailer is for EA’s upcoming racer Need for Speed: Undercover, their 12th entry in the franchise since its flagship by Canadian gaming outfit Distinctive Software (now known as EA Canada) graced home computers and consoles in 1997.
This in itself isn’t particularly surprising given that EA just loves to milk their franchises for as long as humanly possible. What is a nice piece of news is that EA have have added the iPhone in the list of platform releases alongside PC, PS2, PS3, XBox 360, Wii, NDS and PSP, making it the first large-scale cross-platform game release from a big name developer to include the iPhone and Touch in its supported platforms. This was actually announced during EA’s E3 press conference last month, long before EA had officially announced Undercover itself.
Although EA have given November 18th as the official release date of the title for every other platform, they have not yet given any official word on the iPhone version. Since this game has been in development in-house since last November (given the 12 month development cycle they had this game on) it is likely that the iPhone version will make its appearance a little later — hopefully before Christmas, but no guarantees, since there’s scant information on the iPhone version beyond EA’s casual E3 announcement.
