Rogers Modifies Upgrade Policy, Lets Almost Everyone Upgrade

It seems like user outcry has prevailed once again, this time from Rogers subscribers whose contracts were renewed too recently to be eligible for an upgrade to the iPhone 3G.
The new policy states that as long as you have been in your contract for at least 3 months with a voice plan that exceeds $30.01, you will be eligible to upgrade to the iPhone 3G for the advertised tier 5 subsidized price. If your voice plan is under $30 though, you will have to kick in an extra $50. Also remember that the $30 6GB data plan is only running for another 3 weeks, and then Rogers will either revert to their original (outrageous) pricing plans, or, if my predictions are correct, they will reveal a new revised price structure that falls somewhere in between their old, horrible rates and the current promo rates.
That should spell good news for Rogers and Fido subscribers who had not yet burned through the requisite 13 months of their contract in order to qualify for the HUP. Just be mindful of the problems you might encounter if you’re on a family plan and the easy way to bend Rogers to your will if you do.
