Pwnage 2.0.2 & WinPwn 2.0.0.4 Released!
by Eric March on August 9, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Finally, the Dev-Team have released their PwnageTool 2.0.2 supporting firmware 2.0.1. Mac users can now download the latest roll-your-own-firmware app for Apple’s latest firmware on both iPhone and iPod Touch. It contains both the latest version of Cydia Packager as well as the first ever public beta of the forthcoming Installer v4, which is enabled by default in all modes. The Dev-Team recommends using Sparkle (the internal updater in PwnageTool) to update your device. Note that this still does will not unlock iPhone 3Gs running firmware 2.0 or 2.0.1. They are still looking for cracks in its baseband pavement through which they can effect an unlock.
As for Windows users, while we all know that WinPwn 2.5 is still on its way, cmw has decided to release version 2.0.0.4 first in order to get everyone Pwning their firmware on Windows as soon as possible. It supports firmware 1.1.4 up to 2.0.1, has root partition resizing support, also features the first beta of Installer v4, and will work on XP and Vista 32/64-bit. Note that you must fully uninstall any previous version of WinPwn before installing this. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, cmw’s WinPwn page is getting thrashed quite solidly, so good luck getting through. You may have to wait ’til the initial crush of downloads subsides and his servers return to some semblance of functionality before you’re able to grab it.

Wonder if this one will actually work for me? (No prior version has been able to build a firmware. On ANY computer I own.)

For some reason, this version of WinPwn doesn’t recognise the iPod Touch 2.01 firmware…

If I jailbreak my G3 phone, will I have to do it each time a new firmware update comes out? Like they just issues 2.0.2 yesterday (Monday). I just DLed WinPwn 2.0.0.4 and wanted to Jailbreak my G3 phone with the 2.0.1 firmware, but then this morning my 2.0.2 firmware update occurred. Can I still use WinPwn 2.0.0.4 with the new Apple firmware update or do I need to wait for another WinPwn update? And will I need to re-jailbreak with each firmware update?
Thanks,
Joe

You’ll need to wait for an update that supports 2.0.2, unfortunately. And yes, you’ll have to re-jailbreak with each update.

Hmmm…I have a jailbroken ipod touch 2.0.1 and I want to upgrade to 2.0.2. I’m not really familiar with hacking and I was just wondering if I’ll need to restore first in order to be able to upgrade. Thanks in advance. =)
