App Store Bringing in Strong Revenue for iPhone Application Developers

Days after the App Store had been launched, Apple announced that they’ve successfully sold (some of which were free) over 10 million applications.
Apple has recently added daily and weekly sales data to iTunes Connect so that developers can get an idea as to how well their apps are doing in comparison to others. One developer, Eliza Block, was quite surprised by the sales numbers that she saw, and was in fact happy to share her revenue numbers with 9to5mac.
Eliza Block is the author of the popular crossword puzzle app “2 Across”, which sells for $5.99 on the App Store. Based on the information within the screenshots provided, Eliza has been earning almost $2,000 each and every day with this application alone.
Here’s another example. “Tap Tap Tap” - The folks responsible for the “Where To?” app and the “Tipulator” app via the App Store - released their App Store sales numbers as well. “Where To?” is $2.99, and “Tipulator” is $0.99. Tap Tap Tap successfully sold 3,546 copies of the two combined, making total revenue of $9,896. After Apple has taken their 30% cut, that leaves the company with $6,927 of pure profit over a single week, which means there’s definitely more money coming their way within the next couple of months at the very least.
If these numbers don’t encourage you as a programmer to step into the iPhone developing field, I don’t know what will.
With all honesty, I’ve asked Eric if he would like to work with me on an application or two for release on the App Store these next couple of weeks. I’ve yet to receive a response, but if all is well, we will keep you informed!
