iPhone Nano for Christmas?

by Eric March on August 5, 2008 at 1:33 am

And you thought this season’s rumour mill would only be churning out iPod news. Turns out, sources are suggesting that Apple is cooking up an extra little surprise for the upcoming holiday season. And by little, I mean nano. iPhone Nano.

We’ve heard this one before — dating back more than a year, in fact. We even saw mockups of what the thing could look like (much like the one to your left from last year, which was done in jest), and claims that it would be released in time for last year’s holiday season, but nothing ever materialized.

Well, the rumour is resurfacing, thanks to a brief article in London’s Daily Mail, and it’s trying to be more serious this time. Rumour has it that the phone will launch in the UK in October for about £150 ($294 USD) for pay-as-you-go customers by O2. “This will be a big one,” said an industry source (who are always realible, you know), with a further claim that the nano is expected to outstrip its progenitor in sales.

Don’t hold your breath, folks. This is one rumour that was due to resurface, and it’s likely just a reliable as it was the first, second and third time around. While it’s possible — even likely — that Apple may consider diversifying the iPhone line once it starts to get a little stale, they’ve got their hands plenty full (some might say spilling over) with global rollouts of the 3G at the same time they’re ramping up for the next iPod refresh.

As any Brit will tell you, the Daily Mail is somewhat of a rag, with daily headlines about immigrants being responsible for all the nation’s problems, amongst other things. In either case, it would appear that their article is just latching on to the Apple hype to get themselves extra traffic. Ah well, one can always hope.

Yeah, I read a few more articles on it and people seem to be saying it’s just a load of linkbait. I’d heard about the Daily Mail being more or less like The National Enquirer for chavs, so I take anything I read there with a box of salt and washcloth for afters to get rid of the icky feeling that I’ve voluntarily read something from a paper bums wouldn’t stuff their grimy anoraks with during the winter.

Bit late to the game though, aren’t they? Or is that also par for the course?

Au contraire, of all the papers available for bums, the Daily Mail is perhaps the best; as we all know, bullshit absorbs heat more effectively than fact.

And yes, it is no surprise that the Mail has jumped on the bandwagon much too late.

Sounds like quite a publication! But I’ll bet no other paper dedicates nearly as much time to stalking Amy Winehouse.

Actually, it sounds a lot like the kind of teen rags we get here, only aimed at a slightly older (but still less astute) crowd.
