Is the iPhone That Powerful? (Two Confirmed iPhone Games)

First, the iPhone was compared to the likes of old, low-level gaming systems such as the NES, SNES and Gameboy Advance systems and was proven when it could emulate the software and physically play the games on the device itself. Another early discussion proved (it doesn’t really needed to be proven, it’s common sense) that the iPhone was not as strong as the current technology systems such as the Xbox 360, Wii and Playstation 3. Then the iPhone was said to have the equivalent hardware as the Sega Dreamcast and Playstation 2 console systems but not proven to my current knowledge. What really could be next?

Well John Camarack, id Software co-founder stated at QuakeCon 2008 that the iPhone is more powerful than a Nintendo DS and a Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) put together in the portable gaming category. This’ll get everyone thinking hard: Is it true? Can this small device we call the iPhone compare and perform better than a Sony Playstation Portable (which was totally built on gaming) and a Nintendo DS….together? Unfortunately, we can’t get this one proved as Carmack only said it verbally in an interview.

But what’s even more interesting is that Carmack confirmed that two new iPhone titles from id Software will be appearing in the App Store in the future: a “conventional mobile game” which could be anything and a game that pushes the iPhone’s graphics to its limits. Do we have an official Doom or Quake for the iPhone coming?
