Winpwn 2.5 Coming Soon!
by Adam Yan on August 1, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Seems like CMW is back up working once again after releaseing three different versions of Winpwn a week or two ago. Instead of the next Winpwn 2.0.0.4 he’s making a big jump all the way to Winpwn 2.5 which is going to be released very shortly according to the creator himself. With this next version it’ll include the least: a partition resizer, an auto updater and a DFU help/function wizard. It’ll also come with a new, sleek and intuitive graphic user interface (GUI) that new players to the jailbreaking game can even understand. Hoping that it’ll include a slew of bug fixes that many Windows users are reporting on various areas of the tool. Let’s hope in the future coming days, weeks or even months that CMW releases a very stable build of Winpwn that every Windows user can enjoy.

Marin,
you shouldn’t have any problems with version 2.0 with winpwn 2.0.0.3,
winpwn 2.5 is only going to be needed for iphone version 2.0.1
if your having problems with iphone 2.0 now then 2.5 probably won’t help
send me an email about the issue your having and ill show you how to fix it

hello,
i’m very new to the jailbreaking game. but i’m quickly understanding how it works and what it does.
however, i have an Iphone version 2.0.2 (5C1). upgraded yesterday.
since it’s not 2.0.1, will WinPwn 2.0.0.3 work with it? or should i wait until WinPwn 2.5? if so, when you do you think it would come out?
i’m dying to get massive apps, and use the Iphone as a storage device, as well as (if that’s somehow possible) upload itunes songs from different computers (not just one…).
thank you,
comments?

@Rob – WinPwn doesn’t actually update firmware versions. You actually have to have downloaded the firmware IPSW files yourself, because Pwnage works with those files to create custom firmwares that you can then restore with in iTunes.
@Lorenz – Unfortunately nothing jailbreaks firmware 2.0.2 yet, but the Team should have that covered very soon and most likely will include it with the next version. So far, 2.0.1 is the highest firmware version you can jailbreak.

Hello Eric,
i found this link. is this a beta of WinPwn? or something else?
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/46800837/my-little-pwnies-dressage
would you recommend me using it?
or should i wait for 2.5?
will WinPwn 2.5 be able to jailbreak 2.0.2? (i wasn’t clear on your answer).

Thank you, so i understood that i need to update firmware on itunes and then jailbreak it with winpwn 2.0.0.4 with custom2.0.1 restore via itunes or wait for winpwn 2.5 update firmware itunes to 2.0.2 and custom via winpwn and jailbreak it with updated 2.0.2?

@Lorenz – Well I’ll be damned — you’re right. The Team has updated QuickPwn (the new no-restore-required jailbreaker) to support all of the 2.x variants (including 2.0.2)! Awesome — thanks for the link. Yes, I’d recommend giving it a try. I’m going to be. The Dev Team have made it safe to use so it won’t permanently brick your device.
@Rob – You can do that — or as above, try the freshly updated QuickPwn. That will probably be even easier. Just upgrade to the latest firmware in iTunes, bust out QuickPwn and jailbreak.

great.
i’ll check it out. i’m a bit worried cause it doesn’t seem tooooo user friendly for hardcore noobz (which i kinda am). also, i really liked the look of the WinPwm 2.5 interface…
one confusion i still have:
is WinPwn and QuickPwn the same people? or are they separate people developing similiar programs?
if they’re the same, what is the difference between both programs?
thanks again for all your help, Eric.

QuickPwn is for pwning (making the device open to future jailbreaks) and jailbreaking. It doesn’t unlock or activate — PwnageTool/WinPwn can do that if you tell it to, but QuickPwn isn’t about that right now.
The difference between QuickPwn and PwnageTool/WinPwn is that PwnageTool/QuickPwn is designed to take a firmware file stored on your local computer (an .ipsw file), open it up, let you inject the jailbreak, unlock (where available), activation (where available), and any applications you want right into the firmware so that you can then use iTunes to do a complete restore with your own customized, home-grown firmware file.
QuickPwn is designed to Pwn and jailbreak right over USB — no firmware file or restore or iTunes required, just a straight jailbreak right over the wire.
