Netshare Returns to App Store

Last night, around 8pm, Nullsoft’s slightly kludgy but perfectly workable tethering app Netshare appeared on the App Store — for about 20 minutes, and then it was yanked, presumably because Apple was hedging its bets against the possibility that it violated their terms. AT&T hates tethering, as do many carriers. (They hate you, after all; tethering is just one of the reasons for it.) It was possible to grab it if you knew the direct link to the file, but it wouldn’t show up in app store searches.
Now it’s back. We don’t know if Nullriver argued with Apple that a SOCKS proxy doesn’t violate any of the SDK restrictions, or that while AT&T have tethering restrictions, other carriers don’t, or whether Apple decided that all by themselves. In the end though it seems that whoever oversees this sort of things decided (grudgingly, no doubt) that it did not, in fact, violate any of the restrictions, so now it’s back in all its glory for US$9.99, so any of you who want to tether, have at it! Just remember, AT&T has recently spoken out about how much they hate tethering, and state that it is grounds for termination of your service. They haven’t actually terminated anyone yet, but I doubt any of our American readers want to be the poster boy, so watch yourself.
