I know a lot of people have been waiting for this one — especially those users of this most excellent PIM who came over from the PocketPC platform. Thankfully, WebIS have finally stepped up with a vague release date set in this press release:

Cedar Park, Texas - Mobile PDA and Smartphone market leader, WebIS Inc., has announced that it will be releasing its incredibly popular PIM, Pocket Informant, for the iPhone and iPod Touch in Fall 2008. Pocket Informant is the next generation in Personal Daily Management for the iPhone, and Windows Mobile. This new release will leverage eight years of mobile experience to bring a fresh perspective to the iPhone user.

Pocket Informant was the first full PIM (personal information management) for Windows Mobile in 2000, and listed at number 6 of all sales for WinMobile apps. “We have a long history of creating powerful and easy to use solutions for the mobile professional”. says Alex Kac, CEO/Founder of WebIS. “When we set out to design our iPhone version we sat down and designed an application that iPhone users could love. To be honest, we are Apple fans here. All of our desktops/laptops are Macs; our servers are XServes; some of us have even worked at Apple. So we know what Mac OS X users like, expect, and deserve.” Pocket Informant for the iPhone is truly focused on making productivity fun and easy, yet focused.

Pocket Informant for the iPhone will ship with its own databases for Tasks and Appointments. To sync this data requires a network connection and to provide alarms Pocket Informant will send push notifications from a server. With all these considerations in mind WebIS has designed a solution that is flexible, easy to use, and secure.

It looks as though Pocket Informant is going to use Apple’s Push Notification Service to set off alarms and notices, which is a good thing — and it’ll probably work a little better than the PocketPC version, given that platform’s notorious issues with event triggers. Pocket Informant will definitely be a welcome addition to the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, so we’ll finally have a feature-rich, comprehensive, and reliable PIM app to our names that goes well beyond the simplistic and separate built-in apps.
