XM Readying an iPhone Client for XM Radio Mobile

XM Radio on the iPhone? No way! Gimme gimme!

Okay, with all honesty, I don’t think I’d be one to get XM radio on my iPhone being it you must pay monthly, however, this is a pretty fancy step foward for XM Radio.

Vernon Irvin, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of XM Satellite Radio, told attendees of the Federated Media Conversation Marketing Summit in New York that XM is working on a native iPhone client for XM’s XM Radio Mobile service.

The mobile service currently streams 25 of XM’s top channels for around $9 per month right to select AT&T, Alltel, or BlackBerry handsets. The service also uses a custom client to select the channels and show the “now playing” information. As you can imagine, an unlimited data plan is recommended (or in the case of AT&T, required) to use the streaming service. And, like the iPod functionality of iPhone, the music will pause automatically when you take a call.

It is still not known when the service will be available to iPhone owners, or how the app will be installed and how billing for the service will work, however when it is known, we will be sure to let you know.
