Funambol Offers Free Alternative to MobileMe

So one of Apple’s big reveals, besides the iPhone 3G, was MobileMe, the wireless sync service geared to the iPhone that lets Mac users do what Microsoft Exchange Server allows Windows users to do, and many are quite pleased with that. The $99 price tag however might be a bit of a turnoff for some, though.
Enter Funambol, a free, SDK-developed wireless sync package that is designed for a wide range of phones through its myFUNAMBOL portal. Funambol have committed to adding support for the iPhone, and as always, it will be completely free and open-source. It supports synchronization though POP, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange, and Domino, and presently supports more than 150 mobile phones.
Currently, Funambol only syncs contacts, but calendar and notes support are forthcoming, so if you’re after a free alternative to MobileMe, this is your ticket. I am assuming this will be available as a free download through the App Store.

Watched the full keynote last night. Mobileme is awesome, but no way worth $100 a year IMO.

.Mac (MobileMe) is ALWAYS available from Amazon for between $70 and $80. It also has iWeb, iDisk and 20GB of space.
And, no, I’m not an employee. Just a bit tired of the “$100 spin.”
