Rogers & Fido Have the iPhone? Someone Inform Ted!

According to Apple’s Canadian site, the iPhone is available to buy at both Rogers and Fido outlets. I’m sure this is rather startling news to Ted Rogers, and indeed just about every Rogers employee. When my wife told me about this and I checked it out for myself I went and checked the Rogers and Fido sites just to see if something slipped under my radar. (But let’s be honest. That would be like trying to covertly pass a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier through my legs.) Nope, nothing. I’m not sure if this is just a test page or mistake by Apple, but there you have it.

This is kind of really old news, but Rogers owns Microcell (Fido). So if Rogers does get the phone, why not offer it to it’s subsidiary provider? Although they still both operate independently, it only makes sense that they both offer it to their clients.

I know about Rogers and Fido, but I’m not sure exactly how such a thing will work. But I guess if Rogers signs on the dotted line they can distribute it through whatever subsidiaries they own, and I expect they wouldn’t want to pillage their Fido customer base by offering the iPhone as a Rogers exslusive, so I guess it only makes sense that they offer it through both so they’re equally attractive. ‘Cos, let’s face it, if only Rogers got the iPhone, Fido would not only lose a lot of future customers, but a lot of current customers as switchers, too.
The main point of the article though was to point out that Apple’s site says the iPhone is already available at either one — which clearly it is not, or I’d hie my ass over there to check it out for myself.
I DO hope they get it on July 11th like everyone else though. I would so freakin’ be there in line to buy it that day. To hell with bills. Who needs the Internet anyw–
