Polarbit Interviewed; Raging Thunder Prepping for App Store Release

A few days ago, TUAW’s resident columnist and everybody’s favourite hacktress Erica Sadun had a chance to interview Raging Thunder developer Polarbit’s Anders Nilsson. Of particular interest was his plans to bring the Raging Thunder port to the App Store once it goes live. That in an of itself is interesting — but perhaps even more surprising is that he doesn’t plan on discounting jailbreak users, and will be distributing it for jailbreakers outside the App Store. It will, however, eventually go pay, so those of you who insist on whinging about such things might want to hold on to your playable betas if you don’t want to shell out for the final build.

Anders also says that Polarbit plans on eventually bringing their entire library to the iPhone, which means we will be seeing Polarbit games like Wave Blazer, Armageddon Squadron, War Zone, Doomination, Little Soldiers, and Raging Thunder’s own sequel, Global Race. Want more? Polarbit also write licensed third party games for mobile platforms, so we might see those as well — and Anders hinted at a major new third party game they’re currently working on that is “sure to drop a few jaws” once it sees the light of day.

For some background, Anders has been a coder for yonks. I became familiar with him when he was better known as AN Cool, and was a member of the Atari ST demo crew The Carebears (TCB). Anders went on to write the popular music tracker TCB Tracker (the first tracker I ever used), as well as do a demo or two on his own. (He had a thing for Samantha Fox, and did a Sam Fox music demo.) Later on, he joined several other demo crews to form Thalion Software, who wrote one of the best 3D solid vector motorcycle racing games on the Atari ST, No Second Prize. (As a side note, I can’t believe his ancient web pages are still active! Heck, they’re almost hitting puberty…)
