13 Windows in Mobile Safari? Here’s How.

Posted by Eric March on June 1, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Ordinarily, Mobile Safari is limited to a maximum of 8 pages open in their own windows.  However, iPhone in Canada’s iPhone Fan has written a method to overcome this limitation in a roundabout way:

Everytime I click on a link within the Mail app, it will launch Safari and a new window will appear. It seems as though opening links within Mail will keep on opening up new Safari windows, enabling you to go past 8. When I had 13 open like the in picture below, all the new windows were opened from URLs within emails, instead of clicking the “new window” button. Give it a try…and let me know if you can accomplish this same feat!

Now, I’m not entirely sure why you’d want to have that many windows open at once — that’s gotta be a pretty big drain on memory — but should you find yourself in need of such a thing, there’s your answer.

Mine maxed out at 8 when I opened links from Mail.app.

Fake, Photoshopped, and here is why, first, is Rogers even in Canada yet with the iphone, second, if it was real wouldn’t the entire ROGERS be showing, they would not put in ROG…

That’s my iPhone, actually, and yes, I’m using a Rogers SIM. (It’s jailbroken and activated, after all.) And yes, it was photoshopped because I couldn’t be arsed to E-Mail myself and try it. (Mostly because I don’t have mail set up on my iPhone yet.) The whole name isn’t displayed because it doesn’t fit in the space allotted to the carrier graphic. When you first turn on the phone it actually scrolls right and left to show the whole name before abbreviating itself like that.

The screenshot used in iPhone in Canada’s article wasn’t photoshopped, though, at least according to its author. I’m going to go ahead and guess that you might want to have 8 windows already open in Safari before you go clicking on mail links.

mskfreak: Canadians have been using unlocked iPhones in Canada since the iPhone went on sale last year.

As for the 13 windows, it’s not photoshopped, it’s real. I don’t think I would waste my time posting fake news…give it a try and you can also open the same amount of windows!

iPhone in Canada: 1. Eric March already said that it was photoshoped.
    2. Fine, you can use it in Canada, but I have seen many cases of fake news (iphone 3g pics).
    3. I have tried this and it does not work, if it works for you than more power to you.

@mskfreak - My image was photoshopped. The one on iPhone in Canada was not. I haven’t tested it myself because I really have no use for so many windows.

And the rumours concerning the iPhone in Canada are regarding its official debut from Rogers, which is still up in the air but most likely between now and September. Unlocked iPhones have worked here since day 1, though.
