Re-Volt, Bioshock Coming to iPhone

This year’s BREW conference had some tasty surprises for iPhone lovers. First and foremost, developer IG Fun announced, and showed some brief early footage of Bioshock.

You heard me. Yes, that Bioshock, Mister Bubbles and all.

I’ll give you a moment to pick your jaw off the floor and mop up the drool. (Hey, we like to keep it clean around here.)

Done? Ready to continue? Good. Now, the footage they showed was running on a BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) device, but they announced plans to bring it to the iPhone as well. There are questions as to how well it could be done, as well as what the control mechanism would be like, but word is that the iPhone should be able to handle a pretty faithful version of the game. The BREW version apparently looked quite impressive, so I can only imagine how much better it would be on the iPhone, what with its beefy PowerVR chip. They haven’t started work on the iPhone version, so I wouldn’t expect to see it for some time yet.

Meahwhile, Canadian developers IUGO Mobile Entertainment were showing off a work-in-progress version of their forthcoming iPhone game Re-Volt. (This is not related to the RC car racing game for PC that bears the same name.) Re-Volt is a first-person shooter that takes full advantage of the accelerometer and touchscreen controls to make the most of the control mechanism. Tilt left and right to turn, forward and back to advance/retreat, and tap to fire. (Firing is automatic; you tap to begin firing, and tap again to stop, so you don’t have to keep your finger on the screen.) The game was running on a real iPhone, so we know this one is well underway. Best of all, there’s a short video of the game in action:
