BMW Plays Nice With iPhone

The growing trend in the automotive world lately has been to give new vehicles the ability to integrate with portable electronics — primarily PMPs and DAPs, and in particular, iPods. Given the popularity of car kits and FM transmitters, it seems inevitable that the technology would eventually trickle down to the vehicular level.

The latest company to jump on board with portable device integration is midrange luxury car maker BMW — but they’re not after just any old PMP integration. They’ve squarely targeted the iPhone, as shown below.

BMW have gone to great lengths to turn a docked iPhone into an extension of the car itself, offering up in-dash controls that allow you to control music, make and receive calls, browse your contact list, and more, without having to yank the iPhone from its seat. Furthermore, BMW have noted that the iPhone 2.0 will be fully compatible with its systems as soon as they are released.

In the event that you’re in the market for a Beemer, at least you know they’ve got your favourite phone covered.
