Spanish iPhone hopefuls, get your wallets ready. Mobile development and consulting firm Sevenclick is reporting that Iberian cell carrier Telefónica Movistar took the opportunity at the Professional Communications Congress 2008 held at the university of Zaragoza, to officially announce the deal they have inked with Apple. According to the terms of the deal, Movistar will receive an exclusive on the coveted iPhone for a period of about three to six months, after which other carriers — including major competitor Orange, who also operate in Spain — will get their crack at a piece of the Apple empanada.

Movistar say that they will begin carrying the iPhone immediately.
