dBelement Apps Out of Beta; Paid Subscription Now Required
by Jody Mitoma on May 22, 2008 at 1:02 pm

iPhone application developers dBelement are removing the beta stage of their many applications, and has begun requiring a paid subscription to use the apps as of May 20th.
JAiB received an e-mail from the company, which can be read below:
We are excited to announce that all of our apps are moving out of beta.
This means that our apps are fully stable, feature rich, and ready for the public.
The dBelement suit comes with the following:
The company is offering the full suit of applications for as low as $3.99… Only problem – in my eyes – is the fact that this $3.99 payment is monthly. All in all, it’ll cost you nearly $50 a year to make use of the company’s suite.
I hate paying monthly to play games or use applications, so I won’t be subscribing to this suite of apps anytime soon, however, if you’d like to see what the folks over at Just Another iPhone Blog feel about this suite, please feel free to follow the source link just below.

Once again greed rears its ugly head. For gods sake you have to violate the warranty on a $300-$500 device to run this software.
I am getting so sick of this. I’m all for folk asking for donations. In fact for Touchpad Pro, had the creator not been so greedy (and boy did I judge that guy write with his recent demand for more money) and demanded payment to make use of the iTunes remote control software, I’d have gladly donated for that. As it was I got it from Pirate Bay.
You want to make money from your apps? Wait for the damn appstore. Don’t ruin what has been a great community with your avarice.

Man I wish you could edit comments here. I thought these were jailbreak apps. I was sure I HAD Reader on my iPod. I got confused. It’s early and I’m tired. LOL!
Same still applies though.

The applications don’t seem that great at all anyway. I don’t see this going anywhere anytime soon. It looks like a waste of money to me.

The apps are meh, as far as I’m concerned. I am definitely not into the subscription model though. I don’t do software rentals. Either I buy it and that’s the last of the money I shell out for it, or it stays on the shelf. (Support subs or major upgrade fees are different though. I don’t mind so much paying a yearly sub for Stardock’s apps, for example, because you get a lot and they update really often.)

The $4 per month is for the complete suite.
You can purchase a per app subscriptions as well.
I bought noter for $7 for 6 months. Noter is a pretty awesome program so I’m ok paying $14 per year for it.
Not to mention that you can still use the apps even without a subscription, the only difference is that you won’t be able to access some sections.

@Andrew, yup I bought a subscription to cityrunnr at $4 for 6 months and noter at $7 for 6 months. Great prices, love the apps. I will end up getting a subscription to reader sooner or later.
