All About The Worlds Largest Apple Retail Store (Boylston, Boston); Grand Opening Videos

Apple Inc. on May 15th, 2008, opened the worlds largest Apple Retail Store on Boylston street in Boston. (see here)

Apple had apparently chosen this location back in 2000, but took eight years of planning to get it built. If Apple had built the store back in 2000, the store would of only had a single floor. But because of Apple’s immense success within the past near-decade, the store has had replanning done, and officially has three floors of Apple goodness.

The first floor of the building is dedicated to the Mac, the company’s most important product, according to Johnson. The second floor is dedicated to the iPod, iPhone and all the third party accessories Apple has to offer. The third floor is the place holder for service, with a massive Genius Bar, sections for one-on-one, workshops, and a second location for Apple’s new Pro Labs initiative.

The Genius Bar within this new Apple store can withstand the capacity of 1,000 people per day at full capacity, with the store being opened from 8am to 11pm.

As if this wasn’t enough, the store is even environmentally friendly, with vegetation on the roof and a rainwater recollection system which directs water from the roof directly into the back bay water table. (see image below)

So it all went down May 15th, 2008. The store’s grand opening brought in hundreds and thousands of people from Boston, and surrounding areas.

According to the FORTUNE Apple 2.0 web blog, the amount of enthusiasm at the opening ceremony was astonishing. Thousands of fans turned up and at least a dozen videos have already been edited and posted up on YouTube. If you’ve never attended one of these events, you’ll be pretty shocked at the level of enthusiasm the staff and crowed had.
