RKS’ Design Combines iPhone with Treo, Failure

RKS Mimique. Thin. Yellow. Fail.California-based RKS Design has decided to take advantage of Android’s open platform philosophy to design a phone around it, and make it kinda-sorta look like a Treo crossed with an iPhone, with more iPhone UI than Palm. Appropriately named “Mimique,” The entire front face — including the antenna — is a perfectly flat (glass capacitive?) touchscreen. The end result? A phone that looks kinda like a Treo in portrait silhouette, kinda like an iPhone in profile and UI, only thinner. Oh, did I mention that it’s bright neon yellow? (cue Bananaphone song) Sure, it’s pictured also in orange and red, but look at that thing. I can just hear the snickering and whispers as you saunter down the boulevard, chatting away, with the only thing brighter than your phone being the noonday sun. But don’t take my word for it. Have a look at the pictures. I also find it amusing that this story originated at Yanko Design, who himself is absolutely no stranger to sometimes odd, whimisical, and occasionally downright bizarre concepts. (Not to disparage him, some of his stuff will make any gadget head weak in the knees, too.)

Dear heavens, that phone is disgusting… That antenna isn’t helping, either. At all. In fact, this phone may be _decent_ if it wasn’t for the antenna popping up, looking so ugly like that. And yes, the colors are horrendous.
