QDOS Sound Frame Changes the iPod’s Landscape

In case you iPod Touch users (and I’m one of them) were feeling a little snubbed by all of the iPhone-oriented goodies, then this one is just for you: The QDOS (no affiliation to the Sinclair QL operating system) Sound Frame doesn’t seem like much more than your average mild-mannered dock. It may even seem a touch homely and dull, appearing as little more than your average charging dock, even though QDOS themselves describe it glowingly as a “unique, portable, lightweight and elegant speaker dock,” in the way you’d expect a mother to describe her daughter, who may outwardly be otherwise.
But the QDOS Sound Frame, which was designed specifically with the iPod Touch in mind (though it can still dock with the others), does something the others don’t: It rotates. Now you can dock your iPod Touch, and if you so desire, rotate it to watch movies and videos, or surf the web if it’s within reach, or even use it as a small picture slideshow while it refuels. Its dual 1.5W speakers are certainly nothing revolutionary, but will get the job done, and weighs in at an attractive half pound (224g).
Unfortunately, it isn’t available yet. QDOS are pegging this one for a July release in the UK, though no exact date has been mentioned, and there is currently no pricing available, nor any information on whether we’ll see the Sound Frame on this side of the pond.

If this was a Slashdot comment, I’d be modding you up for the Sinclair QL reference.:)
That is a nifty looking dock.

Hey man, this is actually pretty nifty.
I’d definitely use this as a picture slideshow + music + charging dock all the time.
I hope this sucker gets released in Canada, or at least in the United States of America. I’d like to get me one.

@UngleBoogie: I dig classic and obscure machines. If I had the money and sizeable house, I’d be one of those mega-nerds with his own private computer/console museum.
@Jody: They do seem to ship internationally, so even if it isn’t released stateside, you might be able to order it online. I don’t expect it to be cheap, though; Royal Mail is on par with Canada Post when it comes to sticking it to you with the shipping fees without the simple courtesy of a reacharound.

Eric: I would too. I already have one friend who collects consoles. Drives his wife nuts.
