Poddle Beta Brings Peggle Clonage

Anyone who’s familiar with PopCap Games’ Peggle in its various computer, mobile, iPod Classic, and Flash incarnations should find something familiar here. Poddle is an attempt to bring a clone of the game to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The object of the game is simple: Aim and launch balls at the pegs on the screen in an effort to eliminate them all. Tap on the screen and a trajectory will be shown from the blue circle indicating where the ball will travel. Let go, and the ball will bounce around on the pegs and illuminate them, following a standard ball physics model. Illuminated pegs are removed from the screen and you try for another batch with your next shot. You have a limited number of balls with which to eliminate all of the pegs, so a little forethought and careful aiming is required to clear the screen before you run out of shots to take.

Poddle is still in a very early beta phase. Although it is playable, it can’t yet be called a game, as there is no scoring, no ball count — not much of anything, really. The only thing that works right now is firing the ball and peg elimination. (Though the last peg on the bottom right doesn’t disappear, so you can’t clear the screen.) There’s no menu, either, so to start a new “game” you must exit back to springboard and reload. Just the same, the graphics — what there are of them so far — are quite good, and the physics are dead on, so there’s a lot of promise here that I hope developer LgChicken can deliver, so we’ll be keeping an eye on its progress.

The Peggle beta can be found on the ModMyiFone repo (http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml).

No thanks, I think I’ll wait until PopCop decides to release it themselves. I’m sure it will be awesome. x]
