Another one? Already? Surely you jest.

Not at all. And don’t call me Shirley. Remember that bit about catching up and having lots of news? I wasn’t just ducking ducking Bosnian sniper fire as I deboarded the plane there. So I’m going to get this eleventh edition of Touching Up out of the way so we can get more current here. Today we’ll cover updates to TimeCapsule, Customize, SugarTracker, fring, ParkingLot, RemoteNote, WildEyes! and TouchPod, as well as go over eBuddy Mobile, and HBO’s move to iTunes.

WildEyes 0.14b1
Databinge’s wee document reader has had a minor update to 0.14b1. The only changes here seem to be the addition of French localization, as well as a change to the dialog boxes, which now slide up from the bottom instead of popping up in the middle. As always, it’s obtainable through Databinge’s own source (http://repo.databinge.com)

TimeCapsule 0.32b1
…and while they were at it, Databinge also updated TimeCapsule to 0.32b1, which adds iBlacklist to the supported backup list, and also allows you to selectively restore individual Safari .plist files, so you can restore, say, your bookmarks without also having to restore your history.

Customize 2.0.0b9
SpicyChicken has released a zesty new beta version of the everybody’s favourite springboard modder. Nothing special here, though, just some bug fixes and optimizations, but these are always worth an upgrade, because bugs suck and faster is better. Ste Packaging has this one (http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/)

SugarTracker Updated to 1.5
Diabetes sucks, but if it’s any consolation, you get to use your favourite device to monitor your blood sugar levels thanks to SugarTracker. This latest update adds a plethora of additions, changes and fixes, including new fields for carbs, meals, activities and notes, plus a simple note editor, export to numerous database formats, additional preferences and settings, and a ton more. Check the source link for a full list of changes. This one also hangs out on the Ste Packaging repo.

Fring 0.9785
The pre-release of this VoIP app has had an update with a few changes, including support for mVoIP calls on firmware 1.1.2 and incoming SIP calls, in addition to fixing a bug relating to SMS messages being deleted. Word on the street though is that it’s still rather dodgy overall, so unless you want to participate in the beta process, you might want to wait for a more stable release. Otherwise, you can grab it on its own source (http://fring.com/iphone.xml).

They paved paradise…
Gah! Now that song is stuck in my head. At any rate, this iPhone/Touch take on the classic puzzle game has been updated to 1.2, and brings with in a significant visual facelift, as well as a new information section that details the level you’re on, pack you’re using, and moves you made, a new menu bar at the bottom of the screen, the ability to switch between levels, and more. You can grab it from the FreeMyiPhone repo (http://pxl.freemyiphone.com). Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an earworm to purge.

RemoteNote 1.01
RemoteNote, the web-based remote notes editor, also has an update to 1.01, sporting a dapper new UI that looks miles better than its predecessor. Additionally, the app now features password-protection for security, improved unicode support, and better note editing. Grab it from the ModMyiFone repo (http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml)

TouchPod 1.0.2
For the uninitiated, the sole purpose of this iSpazio app is to combine the Music and Video apps into one “iPod” application, such that your music app will now have a video tab, just like the iPhone. It probably goes without saying then that this app is designed exclusively for the iPod Touch. You can grab it on the iSpazio repo (http://repo.ispazio.net).

eBuddy Mobile
Entering the increasingly crowded niche of multi-messengers is eBuddy Mobile. This is a multi-client supporting MSN, AIM, Yahoo, and Google Talk. Although you can use any one of these freely online, you must create an eBuddy account if you want to be logged into multiple messengers at the same time. (That part is still free, just a bit more of a pain.) Why should you use it? Well, that seems to be the ten-dollar question. Reports are that it’s rather sluggish and doesn’t employ a dynamic AJAX-type interface, so everything you do through eBuddy requires a page refresh. If you’re on a slow connection, this can be rather frustrating. Might we suggest Meebo instead?

Apple Caves on Variable Pricing — to HBO; New Shows Available
Well there’s something I didn’t expect. Given Apple’s heated row with NBC last year that caused the huffy network to part ways with the iTunes store in an attempt to strike out on their own (and then later try and return with hat in hand), you wouldn’t think Apple was particularly interested in budging on the variable pricing issue. Nevertheless, that is exactly what they’ve done for HBO. As a result, episodes of premium HBO content like The Sopranos, Rome and Deadwood are now available on iTMS for $2.99 a pop, while “regular” content such as Sex and the City, The Wire, and Flight of the Conchords can be had at the regular price of $1.99 an episode. You can read the press release here. Now we just wait for NBC to run in, brandish their smug fingers and scream, “TOLD YOU SO!”

That’s it. That’s all she wrote. The well has run dry. The fat lady has sung. My Touching Up queue is empty — at least for the next few hours.
