Kingdom Lores Pre-Alpha Video Preview

Some time ago, Marco Giorgini, author of Yeti3D and CubeWorld, indicated that he was working on an RPG project known at the time only as “Dungeon.” That game has become what will be known as Kingdom Lores, and it has just received a pre-alpha preview release.
Breaking with tradition, this uses an entirely new and custom 3D octree-based engine written from scratch, which runs a great deal better than the Yeti3D engine Marco has used in the past. Being a pre-alpha release, we can’t expect much from it. Even so, there’s a game here, if a very limited one. There isn’t a whole lot to do; you run around a village and hack and slash a few creatures and that just about does it. You can be attacked by multiple creatures at once, so it’s possible to get into some heavy battles wherein you may die. (I did a couple of times during the video.) There’s no treasure to find and no healing potions or anything, so watch your health. You can open treasure chests, but there’s nothing in them yet.
The graphics are pretty decent. There isn’t a whole lot of variety here; there’s one type of building, three creature models (you, the monster, and a stoic blacksmith stuck in the middle of the village), a crate, a treasure chest with no inner lid texture, and the blacksmith’s “booth” with assorted static weapons and shields lying about. Your movements are more or less the same as Yeti3D; the four cardinal directions, attack, and jump.
There are quite a few options to the game, though not all of them currently work. Portrait and landscape play modes are supported, as well as accelerometer control that can be configured to work as strafing, movement, or looking around. You can also change whether your view is from behind your character or in first-person mode, and you can alter the virtual game pad configuration. Unfortunately there’s a bug in the options menu that in certain situations prevent you from leaving the options menu. I wasn’t able to test the accelerometer feature or alternate gamepad configurations because of this bug.
It’s a pretty good preview for what there is and gives you a good idea of what’s to come in future version. It is not currently available on any repo, so you can direct download it here. To install, SSH into your device. Unzip the archive. Within there will be two folders. The Klores.app folder must go in your /Applications directory (don’t forget to change permissions to 777!), while the other one must go in /private/var/mobile/Media/. Respring and the game should appear on your springboard.
Meanwhile, check out the video below.

From his website:
“Is Kingdom Lores another Yeti3D engine based app?
Nope. This time is a new engine - not a port. It’s basically a true 3D octree based engine - that uses OpenGLES. I’m writing it from zero - so things will be added one by one. And this is the reason - for instance - of its slowness (at moment) compared to Yeti3D games.”
It doesn’t use Yeti3d.

Whoops! My bad. It looked so much like Yeti3D that I made the assumption. I’ve edited it to properly reflect its status. Thanks!

Incredible. An idea… Make the game less focused on battle at first, and more on collecting certain things, solving puzzles. This will increase the depth of the game easily with less overall programming required.

@Wayne - Marco definitely has plans to turn this into a more robust RPG. I think right now he’s just focused on the basic game engine elements — level design, movement, some very basic interaction (the chest can be opened) and battle. It’s probably going to take him a while before this turns into a full-bodied RPG though, so right now this is a good taste of things to come.
