Simiotica’s New and Upcoming Games

simioticaPre-App Store commercial games seem to be coming along more frequently of late, which I’m sure is upsetting to the “purists” of the scene. Nevertheless, Ukrainian newcomer Simiotica is looking to contribute to their fits of apoplexy with two games so far: One new, and one forthcoming release, entitled Amaze and Accelerate respectively. They seem to be proficient in iPhone development, and these initial releases seem to be intended to get their name and product out there so that when they do finally hit the App Store, they’ll already have a following.

Amaze
Their first release is Amaze – amusingly, a wooden labyrinth game, which is exactly the sort of game that started the whole software-should-be-free posse on its quest to shame the scourge of commercial games on the jailbreak scene into remission. Nevertheless, as labyrinth games go, this one is half decent, though visually not quite as good as the original iPhone labyrinth. Still, it’s quite decent, features full accelerometer control and your standard physics model. The demo can be obtained now on Simiotica’s own repository (http://www.simiotica.com/rep) and purchased for $9 from their product page. Hit the read link for screenshots and details on their upcoming game.

Accelerate
Of perhaps more interesting note is their forthcoming title Accelerate. Following along the accelerometer-controlled game lines, Accelerate looks like it’s going to be a kind of two-dimensional, OpenGL-ES-based game somewhat along the lines of games like Ballance and Switchball, though with fewer features. The object of the game seems to be fairly simple: Guide your ball over platforms and head to the goal while avoiding obstacles and collecting bonuses. No word yet on a release date or pricing, but it’s likely that it will follow the same path as Amaze as far as obtaining the demo and buying the game are concerned.
